Read "Running the River." As you read, think about how Alison changes and grows as the result of her rafting trip.
Remember that in a cause-and-effect relationship, something happens that causes something else to happen. Sometimes several events lead to a single reaction. Sometimes one event starts a chain reaction in which several things happen as a result. Read the story again. As you read, think about the events in the story and what happens as a result of them. Then read the effect in the first diagram below. Find the three events in the story that caused that effect and add them to the diagram.

Read the cause in the next diagram. Find the four things that happened as a result and add them to the diagram.
